Fun Ice Breaker Questions for Your Company Meetings

Whether your team calls it a "weekly huddle," an "all-hands meeting," or even a "monthly team conference" (fancy!), many companies come together at regular intervals to talk shop and share announcements. Unfortunately for some teams, these events can be more of a chore than a chance to interact with colleagues.

To keep your audience engaged, give them a chance to participate in a fun, relaxed way! Asking company-wide culture questions gives your team a chance to interact in a way that they may not normally in their regular day-to-day. Not every team member will have a sale to announce or a new policy to present; fun ice breaker questions engage the whole team.

Jordan Digital Marketing has been a fully-remote company since its inception in 2017. In other words, we know what we're talking about when it comes to ice breaker questions for meetings! Below are some of our favorite culture questions, with a few responses from our own meetings.

New call-to-action

Top Ice Breaker Questions to Ask in Meetings

1. What’s your favorite way to spend time outdoors?

Fishing has always been a bonding activity for my dad and I - give me the perfect crisp fall day, a beautiful lake, and a book to read when the fish aren’t biting and I’m happy!

2. What’s the coolest vacation you’ve ever taken?

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

4. What is your favorite food and why is it your favorite?

Sandwiches, because you can do so much with them.  At one point, I actually started a Facebook group called Sandwich Symposium as an excuse to hang out with old coworkers and eat sandwiches.

Why sandwiches?

Basically, all your best foods (other than soup, but if that’s your favorite food, you’re wrong) are improved by putting them between two slices of bread.  You don’t need utensils, and you can eat them on the go.  Also, if you get tired of one kind of sandwich guess what… you can try it with different bread, meat, or veggies, the possibilities are endless.  Have you ever had a PB&J, they were great when you were a kid and they’re great now.  Thanksgiving dinner is dramatically improved when all the best foods are put on a sandwich the next day and use gravy instead of mayonnaise or mustard.  Burgers, you probably like them, huh? Guess what, they’re also a sandwich!

In conclusions, sandwiches are the best.

…Burritos are good too.

5. Which 5 Places Do You Want to Visit Before You Die?

6. What Scene From A Movie Gives You Chills Every Time?

When Shadow returns to Peter in "Homeward Bound." When Anna's geese fly with her airplane in "Fly Away Home."

7. What topic could you give a 20-minute presentation on without any preparation?

8. What item or gadget are you currently dreaming of buying?

I’m not much into gadgets or non-essential items in general. I prefer to save my money for travel instead. My next trip will be to Switzerland, so that’s what I’ll be planning and spending money on soon.

9. Who is the most interesting person you’ve met and talked with?

In 5th grade I won a contest to meet the Globetrotters and sit on the bench with them during a game. During halftime, myself and a few other kids got to go to the locker room to get pictures and autographs and talk to them. Unfortunately I was way too shy to really talk to them, but they were all super nice and funny and it was an awesome experience.

10. What do you buy way more of than most people?

I buy candles and batteries in bulk whenever I’m at a store and they’re in the checkout aisle. I got caught in a bad storm last year and lost power for days so now I make sure I am over-prepared!

11. If you could have one superpower, which one would you choose?

If I had a super power I wish it was to be able to heal people. Take away pain and illness from those who suffer, give children who have diseases a chance to live a full life.

12. What is the best picture that you're in? Why is it your favorite?

13. What incredibly common thing have you never done?

Never owned a Twitter account or Tweeted. Also, never bought a Hydroflask.

I've never been to Vegas!

14. What food do you love that a lot of people might find a little odd?

Lengua. I used to think it was odd too, until I tried it mistakenly. Some of the best tacos I've ever had.

15. What does your perfect breakfast look like?

Chicken and waffles, huevos rancheros, and an acai bowl. All of it.

A short stack of my dad’s super thin homemade pancakes, 2 eggs over easy, and 2 strips of bacon.

16. When is the most interesting period in history?

DINOSAUR TIMES! Is that an acceptable answer? Because it’s what I believe! If I’m allowed to say that, then to be more specific, the Late Cretaceous was off the chain. Big old dinos taking over North America and Asia.
