Erica Thompson - JDM Impressions

Written by Jordan Digital Marketing | Jul 22, 2022 3:19:25 PM

Working remotely, like we do at JDM, doesn’t mean being disconnected from colleagues. As part of our culture-building initiative, and to introduce the digital marketing world to our awesome team members, we regularly peel back the curtain on the lives of JDMers. This week, we’ll get to know Erica!

Name: Erica Thompson

Position: Talent Acquisition Specialist

Location: San Francisco Bay Area

When did you begin working at JDM?
September 2021

How did you know JDM was the right fit for you?
My career coach knows (CEO) Tyler Jordan and thought it would be a great fit. After speaking with Tyler and Sonja, I knew it was going to be a great fit based on their personalities and philosophy on work.

What’s your favorite part of the workday?
Talking about JDM to candidates! We do a lot of things well, and it’s a point of pride to be a part of this team.

What’s the most gratifying part of working with your teammates?
When I identify a great candidate and then get to match up everything they are looking for to everything we can offer them, and more! I love getting to talk about how we operate by our values.

In a remote company, how do you stay connected with your team?
I love doing the monthly virtual coffee chats, participating in social slack channels, and encouraging people to participate in the weekly Humans of JDM Q&A.

My manager and I also make sure to keep at least one Zoom call a week to catch up and discuss recruiting. That cameras-on time is essential!

What three words would you use to describe the JDM culture?
Value-driven, innovative, supportive.

What's something you love about JDM?
Besides being values-driven, as I mentioned, the flexible hours and being remote makes for an amazing work/life balance. I love being able to travel while I work.

Can you recall a time when JDM challenged you, and how we supported you through that time?
Sometimes there are urgent hiring needs. My manager is always willing to jump in to help, and we are given all the resources we need, often trying new tools or methods to meet our goals.

What’s the best thing you’ve done with your unlimited PTO?
Backpacking in Big Sur!

What's something you love about the marketing industry?
We get to bring new ideas and services to the world!

What do you think has been the most interesting change in the marketing industry or in your channel this year?
The increased focus and effort that companies are putting into diversity and inclusion in hiring and promotion practices.

What are the names and ages of your kids (or furbabies)?
Shasta and Lassen are our cats. They are littermates and are about 1.5 years old.

Our newest addition is Freya, a 10-month-old German Shepherd/Husky mix that we adopted 2 weeks ago!

What's something you've implemented or tested, and what was the outcome?
I tested out a new way to get resumes from Indeed—by paying per application instead of clicks—and it’s been a fairly reliable way to get more applications quickly when needed.
